The Ek family

Christina and Anton Ek came to America in the 1880s from Smoland, Sweden. They located in this area on a wooded homestead near Upper Preston, where SR18 and I-90 intersect today.

The Eks had ten children who grew to adulthood. Some were born in the log cabin near Echo Lake, others entered the world on the family’s acreage near town. The children were: Charlie, Annie, Martin, Mary, Albin, Victoria, George, Esther, Mabel and Walter. Mabel Ek Brady, a 1911 graduate of IHS, is still living.

Other members of the family still in the Issaquah area are: Carmen Ek Olson, Liberty teacher Chuck Olson, Peggy Ek Hawkins.
