The Nyberg family
Eric Nyberg immigrated from Buddbyn, Boden, Sweden in 1910 to Oregon and then to Issaquah. He worked in the mines and as a logger. In 1916, he went to Alaska with the railroad, but was soon drafted for WWI. After the war, he returned to this area to work at the High Point Mill.
Margaret Nyberg came from Syden, Boden, Sweden in 1913 to work as a domestic in Seattle. She also worked in Nome, Alaska for a couple of years.
After their marriage, the couple purchased acreage on the Pine Lake Plateau in 1922 that they cleared for a farm. In 1930, Margaret’s brother Oscar bought that property so that she and her husband could purchase the adjacent land. The original property is now in the hands of their son.
Margaret’s brothers Oscar and Gust Nyberg were an important part of the family. They immigrated in 1907 and 1910, but never married. Margaret and Eric had three children. Mabel and Joe still live on the plateau, and Ruby Sadlier also did until she moved to Renton four years ago.
The family has grown to eight grandchildren-which includes local residents Jean Straub, Margo Campbell, Diane Thomason and Sherie Kelly-17 great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild.
