Issaquah students receive scholarships at WWU
Anna Shelton, daughter of Duane and Marjie Shelton, of Issaquah, received a $2,000 President’s Scholarship for the 2010-11 academic year at Western Washington University. The President’s Scholarship is awarded to the top 8 percent to 10 percent of incoming freshmen and transfer students, and is based on superior academic achievement. Shelton, who will be a freshman at WWU, earned a 3.98 grade point average from Seattle Christian School. She is planning to major in English literature and biology. Shelton was an ACSI state and a National Merit scholar. Her professional goals include becoming an editor or a doctor.
Lucas Morais, son of Alcides and Leslie Morais, of Issaquah, received a $2,000 Multicultural Achievement Program Scholarship for the 2010-2011 academic year. The scholarship is awarded to students who demonstrate academic achievement, leadership and a commitment to multicultural issues and activities in school or the community. Schramm, who will be a freshman at WWU, earned a 3.0 grade point average from Issaquah High School and is interested in majoring in business marketing. He was a member of his high school varsity soccer team for four years and a participant in HOPE worldwide. His professional goals include expanding his JSL entertainment company and starting additional companies in the entertainment industry.

Local students named to Ball State dean’s list
Justin Spicer, of Issaquah, and Caitlin Evans, of Sammamish, were recently named to the 2010 spring semester dean’s list at Ball State University, in Muncie, Ind.
To qualify, students must earn at least a 3.5 grade point average for 12 or more credits of graded course work during a semester, or for six or more credits of graded course work during a summer term. Read more

Local students make deans’ lists
-Matthew Glenn, of Issaquah, and Charles Wang, of Sammamish, were named to the dean’s list for the spring 2010 semester at Washington University in St. Louis.
-Jessica L. Klein, a sophomore from Issaquah, was among the 784 students named to the Gonzaga University dean’s list for spring semester 2010. Students must earn a 3.5 to 3.69 grade point average to be listed.
Student named to Phillips Academy honor roll
Minymoh Anelone, of Issaquah, a member of the class of 2012, has been named to the honor roll at Phillips Academy, in Andover, Mass., for the spring term. To qualify, students must maintain at least a 5-point grade average on a 6-point scale.
Issaquah students graduate
-Laura Marks, of Issaquah, graduated July 30 from Azusa Pacific University, in Azusa, Calif., with a Bachelor of Arts in communication studies.
-Elisabeth Jeremica, of Issaquah, graduated in June from DePaul University, in Chicago, with a Bachelor of Music degree from the School of Music. She also was named to the dean’s list for the 2010 spring quarter. To qualify, full-time students must earn a cumulative grade point average of 3.5 or above on a 4-point scale.
-Brian Birch, a 2000 graduate of Liberty High School, graduated from the University of Washington School of Medicine on June 5. Birch, the son of Chuck and Julie Birch, of Issaquah, will complete his residency at Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville, in pediatrics.

Local student participates in national leadership program
Jay Chakravarty, a senior at Liberty High School, has been selected to participate in the Economics for Leaders program at the University of Washington from July 18-25.
Chakravarty is one of 32 students from the country to be honored by being accepted into the Foundation for Teaching Economics’ Seattle program. All of the students have been selected because they have demonstrated excellent leadership potential.
Local students make Pepperdine dean’s list
Sarah Goodman, of Issaquah, and Emily Chu and Kathryn Malone, of Sammamish, were recently named to the Seaver College dean’s list for the 2010 spring semester at Pepperdine University. To qualify, students must be in the upper 10 percent of their class and maintain a 3.5 or better grade point average.

Ryan Fenn graduated with honors from Montana State University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in history.
Fenn, a 2005 graduate of Liberty High School, spent his last semester abroad, studying international history at Stellenbosch University near Cape Town, South Africa, where he passed his courses with distinction.
Ryan previously earned his private and commercial pilot certificates and is working on his flight instructor certificate while servicing airplanes at Yellowstone Jet Center in Bozeman, Mont.

Local students graduate
-Christina Asavareungchai, a 2003 graduate of Issaquah High School, recently graduated from Yale Law School with a Juris Doctorate. She will practice general corporate law at the Seattle firm of Stoel Rives LLP.
-Two local students recently graduated from Drake University in Des Moines, Iowa. Jeremy Anderberg, Issaquah, earned a Bachelor of Arts in journalism in public relations from the School of Journalism and Mass Communication. Anderberg also received a Bachelor of Arts in religion from the College of Arts and Sciences. Gregory Wolf, of Bellevue, earned a Bachelor of Science in business administration in accounting from the College of Business and Public Administration.
-Lindsay Douglas graduated from Baylor University and was also honored by the Big 12 Commissioner’s Honor Role. Douglas was honored for achieving a perfect 4.0 grade point average for the spring 2010 term. Read more

Local students graduate from college
The following local students graduated from Gonzaga University June 16: Jeffrey Allbaugh, of Issaquah, Bachelor of Arts degree in business administration; Michelle Miller, of Issaquah, Bachelor of Arts, business administration; and Joshua Hamblen, of Sammamish, Bachelor of Science.
Ana Siller, of Issaquah, has graduated from Boston College with a Bachelor of Arts degree from the university’s College of Arts & Sciences, with majors in communication and sociology.
Matthew D. Holze, of Issaquah, recently graduated with a Doctorate of Philosophy in mathematics at Boston University in May.
Tanya W Li, of Bellevue, graduated from Missouri University of Science and Technology with a Master of Science degree in information science and technology. Read more
